What is BioAPI-Java?

The BioAPI standard specifies a biometric architecture consisting of 3 major components - a BioAPI application, a BioAPI Framework, and BioAPI Biometrics Service Providers (BSPs) which perform capture, processing, matching, and database operations. The specification standardizes the communication between these components via API calls defined in C.

Many developers wishing to take advantage of this standardized API, and of the biometric capabilities of BioAPI compliant BSPs, are hindered by the API complexity inherited from the use of C in the API.

BioFoundry® BioAPI-Java provides Java developers with a higher-level object model that is easier to learn and use than the C-based standard API. Our middleware solution addresses the need for Java applications to communicate with BSPs implemented as C libraries, while also shielding application developers from changes in the lower level BioAPI components.
